Barnes & Noble NOOK HD+ Specification

Wednesday, 26 September 2012

Barnes & Noble Nook HD+ is the other member of the manufacturer's tablet family, a 9-inch tablet with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Again, it's the lightest in its class weighing merely 1.13 pounds (515 grams). It is powered by a dual-core TI OMAP 4470 processor clocked at 1.5GHz and has 1GB of RAM.

The Nook HD+ runs the same OMAP 4470 1.3-GHz dual-core processor as the Nook HD, and its performance seems to be just as strong. There was zero lag time when turning magazine pages and opening apps was pretty speedy. The software build is still a month away from being final,
The Nook HD+ runs a highly customized version of the Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, but don't expect it to look like your phone. The interface provides quick access to you reading, the Web, email, and the Nook store with a nearly ever-present series of icons at the bottom of the display. At the top of your screen is a Cover Flow-like series of thumbnails of your recent media, books, magazines, videos, and even apps. Overall, the interface seems cleaner than iOS.
The software also includes the new Profiles feature, which lets you create up to six profiles. By setting up a profile for your child, you can make sure they can always read your copies of Thomas the Tank Engine without accidentally opening up your copy of 50 Shades of Grey. You can also put restrictions on video content.
Indeed, the upcoming launch of Nook Video is another big part of this product's launch. The Nook Store will sell and rent HD videos from HBO, Sony, Starz, and Walt Disney Studios. The video content is stored in the Nook cloud and can be streamed to any device with the Nook Store, including TVs and smartphones. The Nook HD+ will also be the first tablet to support UltraViolet out of the box, so you will be able to watch digital versions of any physical DVDs or Blu-rays you have purchased. I didn't get to test this out, but the addition of a video service seems to put Barnes & Noble on more even footing with both Apple and Amazon.
